ATM is a gene that we don’t talk about enough! ONE ATM mutation causes a moderate increased risk for cancer, but TWO ATM mutations (one from each parent) cause Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T), a very severe childhood disease. More than 100 ATM mutations occurring in A-T patients have been documented. ​​North African Jews, Palestinian Arabs, Druze, and Bedouins in Israel were amoung some of the first populations studied, but A-T has been found worldwide in many human populations including in Ashkenaz
